INTRODUCTION VIDEO SCRIPT

[JESS] My name is Jess Wojciechowski, and I’m running to be your next Student Body President. I am a current student leader at the University of Utah and a proud queer student. I spend my time as a student leader listening to students' concerns on safety, accessibility, and affordability- three issues made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of my college career has been spent in a mask and on zoom while working several jobs to afford college after being laid off last spring. We have all endured a hard year. As your next student body president, I will advocate for a safer, more accessible, and affordable campus- both in person and virtually- especially for those disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, our Black, Indigenous, and students of color. I will elevate your voice and empower you to ignite the change that we need here at the U.

[TIFFANY] Hi, my name is Tiffany Chan and I am running for VP of University Relations. I am a first generation student of two proud Chinese immigrant parents. As a current student leader at the University of Utah, I actively participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion reform dialogues in several programs, including the Bennion Center and more. My involvements have culminated into firsthand insight of the U college experience. With this, I am extensively conscious of the U’s area strengths and weaknesses. We enable academic enrichment and transformative opportunities, but we also fall short of accountability and reliability in supporting and empowering our students in all aspects of their undergraduate life. Under the unique circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we need to be adaptive, proactive, and responsive to deep issue areas affecting marginalized students. I want to be your advocate for better, lasting change, as students empowering students.

[MARYAN] My name is Maryan Shale and I am running for Vice President of Student Relations. I am a first generation refugee student . My family and I have been in America for 16 years,  throughout the years I have learned to be independent and open-minded. As a black woman, I would say that my experience at the U has been different , there are times where I’ve felt invisible so I took the initiative to be heard instead and I did that by getting involved on campu. I was an Orientation Leader, Beacon & Diversity Scholar and held leadership roles in organizations such as The African Student Association and the president of Black Student Union. The University feels divided and uncertain. There are times where it feels like students are opposed to other students for having opinions and there are times where administration isn't listening to students opinions but all around the University and campus has always felt physically and emotionally divided. I want the U to be compassionate, collaborative and open to change. I believe our ticket will elevate student voices and be a counterbalance to the University Administration.

[MARYAN] The Wojciechowski ticket will be committed to the success of all students at the University of Utah. [TIFF] We will focus on the issues important to students and advocate for our safety, wellbeing, and inclusion. [JESS] I would be honored to be your ASUU President and bring your experiences with me to make all of our education better and more equitable.

ANNA & CONNOR VIDEO SCRIPT

Anna: Hi everyone! My name is Anna Barnes, and I was the 2019-2020 student body president for the University of Utah.

Connor: And I’m Connor Morgan. I was your 2018-2019 student body president.

Anna: As former student body presidents, we learned to work with stakeholders throughout the University of Utah to deliver meaningful progress for students on all sorts of issues ranging from campus safety, to access to mental health services, to more accessible parking.

Connor: Some of that work we did was visible and public, but a lot of times it was behind the scenes, lobbying and negotiating on behalf of students with top university administrators. We learned what it takes to be an effective student body president who will do the most good for you, and we know just how important it is for the student body to have a passionate and experienced advocate in those rooms with university decision-makers.

Anna: That’s why we decided we needed to make an endorsement in this week’s critically important student government election. So today, we are encouraging you to vote for the Wojciechowski Ticket.

Connor: We know that Jess, Maryan, and Tiffany have what it takes to lead your student government next year. Representing the student body as the University of Utah navigates the COVID-19 crisis is no small task, but each member of the Wojciechowski Ticket brings both lived and professional experience that will enable them to advocate for you—and deliver.

Anna: And, in a time when the university feels divided and siloed, it’s more necessary than ever to elect student leaders who have the tools to empower other students, build solidarity, and make the university more compassionate, collaborative, and open to change.

Connor: So, in order to make the University of Utah safer, more accessible, and more affordable, we encourage you to vote for the Wojciechowski Ticket this week.

Anna: Voting is open right now, and it will end on Thursday at 5 pm. Thank you for being a voter, and thank you for being engaged, and make sure to spread the word to your friends, too. We’re counting on you.

Connor: Go Utah!

Anna: Go Utah!
